Breeze Airways launches flights from Tweed

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – Breeze Airways launched its new service from Tweed-New Haven Airport on Tuesday.
It was the first time in nearly 20 years that the airport had more than one airline service.
Just five years ago, Tweed had one flight to Philadelphia that went out every other day.
Now, there are 33 unique non stop destinations.
Scott Warner and Ashley Coburn are spending the next few days in Florida. They flew out on Breeze’s inaugural flight down to Fort Myers.
“Its really easy, cheap flights, can’t beat it most of the time,” said Warner.
“This isn’t just about adding a new airline, it’s about creating the possibilities of convenience, affordability, and connectivity for travelers,” said Jorge Roberts of Avports.
The routes Breeze brought to New Haven started Thursday and run through early February. They included:
- Fort Myers, FL (Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, and Sat, starting Tuesday, from $49 one way)
- Orlando, FL (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat, and Sun, starting Wednesday, daily starting Feb. 5, 2025, from $39 one way)
- West Palm Beach, FL (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat, and Sun, starting Wednesday, from $39 one way)
- Vero Beach, FL (Mondays and Fridays, starting Friday, from $59 one way)
- Charleston, SC (Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, starting Feb. 6, 2025, from $39 one way)
- Jacksonville, FL (Thursdays and Sundays, starting Feb. 6, 2025, from $48 one way)
- Norfolk, VA (Thursdays and Sundays, starting Feb. 6, 2025, from $30 one way)
- Richmond, VA (Thursdays and Sundays, starting Feb. 6, 2025, from $30 one way)
- Raleigh-Durham, NC (Mondays and Fridays, starting Feb. 7, 2025, from $34 one way)
- Sarasota/Bradenton, FL (Mondays and Fridays, starting Feb. 7, 2025, from $44 one way)
- New Orleans, LA (Thursdays and Sundays, one stop/no change of plane BreezeThru service starting Feb. 6, 2025)
Seventy five new jobs were also added with the new flights. That’s something that State Comptroller and former Tweed Executive Director Sean Scanlon knows all too well.
“400 community jobs, 33 non stop destinations, tens of thousands of people on a weekly basis, coming through here to visit loved ones, to come to a job interview, to take that long awaited vacation. This is the community airport we’ve always said it was,” he said.
However, those who live nearby are not as thrilled. They say they’re already dealing with noise, traffic, and parking concerns.
Now, they’re worried that a busier airport will add to it.
“We really want to be great partners with the community, partners wth the airport, certainly the constraints with the airport. We want to make sure this is great, sustainable, productive for everybody in the region,” said Lukas Johnson of Breeze Airways.
To celebrate the additions, Breeze said it sought to give away 200 roundtrip tickets from New Haven to Orlando, Fort Myers, or West Palm Beach. Giveaway details can be found here.
